Vincent van Gogh 'Sterrennacht'

Starry starry night

Don Mclean

Paint your palet blue and grey
look out on a summer's day
with eyes that know the darkness in my soul

Shadows on the hills

Sketch the trees and the daffodiles
catch the breeze and the winter chills
in colours on the snowy linen land

Now I understand
what you tried to say to me
and how you suffered for your sanity
and how you tried to set them free
they would not listen they did not know how
perhaps they'll listen now.

Starry starry night

Flaming flowers that brightly blaze
swirling clouds in violet haze
reflect in Vincent's eyes of china blue
colours changing hue
morning fields of amber grain
weathered faces lined in pain
are soothed beneath the artist's loving hand

Now I understand
what you tried to say to me
and how you suffered for your sanity
and how you tried to set them free
they would not listen they did not know how
perhaps they'll listen now

For they could not love you
but still your love was true
and when no hope was left inside
on that starry starry night

You took your life as lover's often do

But I could have told you,
Vincent,
this world was never ment for one as beautiful as you

Starry starry night

Portraits hung in empty halls
framless heads on nameless walls
with eyes that watch the world and can't forget
like the strangers that you've met

The ragged men in ragged clothes
a silver thorn
a bloody rose
lie crushed and broken on the virgin snow
now I think I know
what you tried to say to me
and how you suffered for your sanity
and how you tried to set them free
they would not listen
they're not listening still

Perhaps they never will

Starry starry night

Don Mclean

Paint your palette blue and grey,Verf je palet blauw en grijs,
Look out on a summer's day,Kijken uit op een zomerse dag,
With eyes that know the darkness in my soul.
Shadows on the hills,
Schaduwen op de heuvels,
Sketch the trees and the daffodils,Schets de bomen en de narcissen,
Catch the breeze and the winter chills,Vang de wind en de winter koude rillingen,
In colors on the snowy linen land.

Now I understand what you tried to say to me,Nu begrijp ik wat je probeerde me te zeggen,
How you suffered for your sanity,Hoe je leed voor uw gezondheid,
How you tried to set them free.
They would not listen, they did not know how.
Perhaps they'll listen now.Misschien zullen ze nu luisteren.

Starry, starry night.Starry, Starry Night.
Flaming flowers that brightly blaze,Vlammende bloemen die fel bles,
Swirling clouds in violet haze,Wervelende wolken in violet waas,
Reflect in Vincent's eyes of china blue.Weerspiegelen in Vincent's ogen van China Blue.
Colors changing hue, morning field of amber grain,Kleuren veranderen tint, in de ochtend gebied van amber graan,
Weathered faces lined in pain,Verweerde gezichten gevoerd met pijn,
Are soothed beneath the artist's loving hand.

For they could not love you,Want zij konden niet van je hou,
But still your love was true.Maar nog steeds je liefde waar was.
And when no hope was left in sightEn wanneer er geen hoop was links in zicht
On that starry, starry night,Op die sterrenhemel, Starry Night,
You took your life, as lovers often do.Je nam je leven, als geliefden vaak doen.
But I could have told you, Vincent,Maar ik kon het u gezegd hebben, Vincent,
This world was never meant for oneDeze wereld was nooit bedoeld voor een
As beautiful as you.Zo mooi als jij.

Starry, starry night.Starry, Starry Night.
Portraits hung in empty halls,Portretten opgehangen in lege zalen,
Frameless head on nameless walls,Frameloze hoofd op naamloze muren,
With eyes that watch the world and can't forget.
The ragged men in the ragged clothes,De haveloze mannen in de haveloze kleren,
The silver thorn of bloody rose,De zilveren doorn van de bloedige roos,
Lie crushed and broken on the virgin snow.

Now I think I know what you tried to say to me,Nu ik denk dat ik weet wat je probeerde me te zeggen,
How you suffered for your sanity,Hoe je leed voor uw gezondheid,
How you tried to set them free.
They would not listen, they're not listening still.
Perhaps they never will...Misschien zijn ze nooit zullen ...
