Mona in Windward Oabu

Joseph Stanton

In the mists of a late afternoon
at Hoomaluhia
we pose each other against the steep,
disappearing volcanic peaks.

Try to almost smile,
I say, camera in hand,
and I will make you
a Leonardo.

Joseph Stanton’s books of poems include Imaginary Museum: Poems on Art (Time Being Books) and Cardinal Point (MacFarland). His poems have appeared in Poetry, Poetry East, Harvard Review, and many other journals. He teaches art history and American studies at the University of Hawai’i at Manoa.
